1995-09-23 Manuel Medina w pts 12 Alejandro Gonzalez, Convention Centre, Sacramento, California, USA - WBC. Referee: James Jen-Kin. Scorecards: 116-112, 115-113, 113-115. Despite being cut over the left eye in the opener, Medina (126) showed great hand speed and movement to not only frustrate the champion but to also outbox him. At the same time, Medina had to defend himself as solid blows to head and body from the heavier punching Gonzalez (126) blasted into him. That, he not only took the best that Gonzalez could offer but came back relentlessly with the jab and straight rights must have impressed the judges.
