Line 1: Line 1:
1995-09-30 Naseem Hamed w rsc 8 Steve Robinson, Rugby Ground, Cardiff, Wales - WBO. Referee: Ismael Fernandez. Boxing in a most unorthodox fashion, the precocious Hamed (125¼) did very much as he pleased when taking the title from Robinson (125¼), landing with power and precision to completely subdue his rival. Although Robinson picked up damage to his right eye in the third round, Hamed did not really take advantage of the situation until the fifth when a four-punch combination dropped the champion on to his back for ‘three’. From thereon it was virtually all over bar the shouting, as Hamed toyed with the Welshman until a terrific left hook dropped Robinson heavily in the eighth and brought about a referee’s stoppage at 1.40 of the session.
