1995-11-18 [[Pernell Whitaker]] w co 6 [[Jake Rodriguez]], Convention Centre, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA - WBC. Referee: Frank Cappuccino. Once a sparring partner for the champion, Rodriguez (146¼) gave it his best in a battle of southpaws and showed a pretty good jab, but lacked the power for the title to change hands. Once Whitaker (147) got himself going he began to send in single hard shots to Rodriguez’s jaw and although the latter stood up to them by the fifth his right eye was swelling fast. By the sixth, Rodriguez was running second best in every department, with Whitaker’s jabs landing flush, and after taking a pounding a wide left hook to the body sent him down. Getting up at ‘seven’ Rodriguez was all at sea and a series of telling body shots put him down again to be counted out by the referee, with 15 seconds of the session remaining.
