1995-11-25 Alimi Goitia w rsc 5 Aquiles Guzman, Marina Bay Hotel, Isla Margarita, Venezuela - WBA. Referee: John Coyle. Just a few seconds into the contest Guzman (114¼) was sent to the floor by a solid southpaw left and although he came firing back it was a 10-8 round for the champion. In the second, determined to bring about a conclusion, Goitia (114¾) sent in left and right hooks to the head but it was a straight punch that brought Guzman down for the second time. Outscored in the third, although Guzman was cut over the left eye at the start of the fourth it did not stop him taking the round to give his supporters renewed hope. It was not to be, however, and at 2.48 of the fifth with Goitia pouring in combinations from both hands and Guzman’s eye worsening by the moment the referee stopped the fight in the champion’s favour.
