1995-12-15 Arturo Gatti w pts 12 Tracy Harris Patterson, Madison Square Garden, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA - IBF. Referee: Wayne Kelly. Scorecards: 116-111, 115-112, 114-113. Making good use of his reach advantage, Gatti (130) dropped the champion with a right uppercut in the second round after both men had made a slowish start. Quickly back on his feet, Patterson (129¾) never gave up the fight and was always looking to get his punches off as Gatti made the running with his aggressive style taking the eyes of the judges. With Gatti in the lead, Patterson began to claw back some of the points in the eighth when he boxed well on the counter and in the tenth there was nothing between them as they both got off powerful shots to head and and body. It was then that Patterson came on strong over the remaining six minutes with cracking right counters to the head connecting again and again, but Gatti, who finished with both eyes damaged, was deemed to have done enough to take the title.
