1996-01-13 Fabrice Tiozzo w pts 12 Eric Lucas, Sports Palace, St Etienne, France - WBC. Referee: Arthur Mercante. Scorecards: 119-108, 117-110, 118-109. Working off the jab well, although the champion had Lucas (174) over in the third following a left-right and shook his man up on numerous occasions he was unable to find a finishing blow. Always looking to trade with Tiozzo (174¾), Lucas proved to be a tough nut to crack as he always came back after being hurt. Despite losing by a wide margin, Lucas was cheered to the rafters for showing such spirit and resolve in lasting the distance. With Tiozzo inactive, Roy Jones outpointed Mike McCallum over 12 rounds for the WBC ‘interim’ title at the Ice Palace, Tampa, Florida, USA on 22 November and when the Frenchman forfeited his crown in February 1997 due to continued inactivity, Jones was named champion.
