1996-02-03 Johnny Tapia w rsc 2 Giovanni Andrade, Great Western Forum, Los Angeles, California, USA - WBO. Referee: Pat Russell. As the top contender for the title, the fast moving, lanky Andrade (115) was a huge disappointment when coming apart so quickly. Nothing really happened in the first round, but once Tapia (115) had made the body his target the Brazilian was distinctly uncomfortable, falling to the canvas crying ‘foul’ after what seemed to be a perfectly legal punch. Getting up before dropping down again Andrade continued to look for a disqualification, but after the action had been halted the referee decided that it was a stoppage win for Tapia, timed at 2.26.
