1996-03-01 Bronco McKart w rsc 9 Santos Cardona, Fantasy Springs Casino & Resort, Indio, California, USA - WBO. Referee: Lou Moret. Disputing the title vacated by Paul Jones, McKart (153¼) eventually found the punches to force a stoppage after 41 seconds of round nine when Cardona (154) was being pelted by heavy shots from both hands and was not fighting back. The referee’s action was also influenced by the fact that Cardona’s second was already climbing into the ring in an effort to bring closure to what was rapidly becoming a bad beating. Prior to that though, the tough Cardona had caused a few problems when marching into his southpaw opponent and banging in right hooks before McKart quickly assumed control. Afterwards, McKart felt that it had been harder than expected, while Cardona, who came in at short notice, said that while he found it difficult fighting a southpaw he had no excuses.
