1996-03-15 [[Carlos Murillo]] w rsc 10 [[Jose Garcia Bernal]], New City Gym, Panama City, Panama - WBA. Referee: Enzo Montero. Making his first defence, Murillo (107¾) started slowly and was shaken up badly several times by left hooks, especially in the fourth and fifth rounds. However, picking it up in the sixth, Murillo began to take control with left jabs and combinations to the head and body as Garcia Bernal (107½) faltered. Although the Colombian had some success in the eighth, from the ninth onwards it was all Murillo and after a series of heavy blows had weakened Garcia Bernal it was no surprise when he was floored in the tenth and rescued by the referee on the 2.39 mark. Due to the referee recognising that it was all over for Garcia Bernal and dispensing with the count it could not be classified as a count out as reported by the ''Nuevo Herald''.
