1996-03-16 Keith Holmes w rsc 9 Quincy Taylor, MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBC. Referee: Richard Steele. Surprisingly out of sorts following surgery on his left knee, Taylor (160) lost his title in his first defence when outpunched and outboxed by Holmes (159). In a battle between southpaws, it was the taller Holmes who started the better, poking in right jabs and keeping the fight at range during the opening six rounds. Although Taylor began to have more success during the next couple of sessions it did not last long and in the ninth Holmes dropped him with a right to the jaw. On getting up, Taylor made little attempt to fight back and after he had shipped a few solid blows to the head the referee came to his rescue with 77 seconds of the round remaining.
