1996-03-16 Mike Tyson w rsc 3 Frank Bruno, MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBC. Referee: Mills Lane. Making his first defence, Bruno (247) was looking for a better result than the one rendered in their previous contest, but he was to be disappointed once again. Being docked a point for holding and hitting in the second round as Tyson (220) drove in blows to the body, merely summed up Bruno’s performance. Being badly cut over the left eye in the opener merely added to Bruno’s woes and after 50 seconds of the third the referee stepped in to rescue the champion after several heavy punches followed by a left hook had deposited him on the bottom rope.

Tyson forfeited the WBC version of the championship in early September for failing to defend against the leading challenger, Lennox Lewis, and taking a fight against Bruce Seldon for the WBA title. Following that, Lewis was matched against Oliver McCall to contest the vacancy.
