Although making a brave stand the challenger was no match for Michalczewski (174¾), who quickly targeted him with solid left jabs. Cut over the right eye in the fourth Umarov (174¼) was allowed to fight on, but continued to walk into big punches as Michalczewski began to unload blows from head to body. At 2.30 of the fifth Umarov was counted out, having been smashed to the floor by a terrific left hook to the the jaw, the referee completing the count despite it being obvious that the challenger would not get up in time.
