1996-04-12 [[Ike Quartey]] w rsc 3 [[Vince Phillips]], Atlantis Casino, St Maarten, Dutch Antilles - WBA. Referee: Julio Alvarado. Throwing a staggering 244 punches in the opening two rounds, the challenger was obviously looking to overwhelm Quartey (147), but the latter merely stuck out the jab and countered whenever he could with heavy rights. Towards the end of the second Quartey was beginning to close Phillips (147) down and in the third, after biding his time, he struck with the right. Having landed heavily, Quartey went after Phillips, who was looking for a breather, and dropped him with a flurry of blows. On staggering up and taking a few more unnecessary punches, the contest was halted on the 2.31 mark when the referee decided that Phillips was in in no fit state to continue.
