1996-05-18 Wilfredo Vazquez w rsc 11 Eloy Rojas, Mirage Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBA. Referee: Mitch Halpern. Carrying a seven-inch reach advantage into the ring enabled the champion to dictate matters for much of the time, with Vazquez (126), cut over left eye in the sixth, winning just two rounds prior to the 11th. Having pressed the fight with very little success, Vazquez made a supreme effort in the 11th to close in on a tiring Rojas (125½) and about a minute into the session he staggered the champion with two left hooks before a follow-up right sent him down. Back on his feet, Rojas was immediately set upon and a left-right-right hook sent him crashing, whereupon the referee called the fight off and at the same time saved his head from cracking against the floor. The finish was timed at 1.21.
