Alvarez (105) soon got his act together and steadily piled up points, while the hard-hitting Chavez (104¼) found it difficult to match the champion’s work-rate. Cut over the right eye in the fourth and chasing Alvarez’s shadow most of the time, the Filipino was on the verge of being stopped in the 11th but recovered well to hear the final bell.
