1996-06-20 Giovanni Parisi drew 12 Carlos Gonzalez, Assago Indoor Arena, Milan, Italy - WBO. Referee: Larry Rozadilla. Scorecards: 114-112, 112-114, 114-114. Caught cold early on, when the champion was dropped in the opener it looked very much on the cards that the hard-punching Gonzalez (138¾) was well on his way to a quick win. This view was compounded when Parisi (137¼) again found himself on the floor in the second. However, from there on in Parisi showed what he was made of when coming back strongly to take the next three sessions by dint of his good boxing skills, switching first one way and then the other to confuse Gonzalez. Although the former champion came back in the sixth and seventh, Parisi edged the last five rounds on all three judges’ cards to retain his title by the narrowest of margins.
