1996-06-22 Michael Moorer w pts 12 Axel Schulz, Westphalia Stadium, Dortmund, Germany - IBF. Referee: Bill Connors. Scorecards: 116-113, 115-113, 113-115. Contesting the vacant title and having his third crack at it, once again Schulz (222¾) failed to make the most of his opportunity when allowing Moorer (222¼) to control the fight at times with his southpaw jab. Schulz simply lacked the power to hurt Moorer, who had gained momentum by the fourth, and although the latter went off the boil he had plenty left when it mattered most. Most of the best action took place in the final session, but it was not enough to get Schulz the win he wanted.
