1996-07-05 [[Marcelo Dominguez]] w rtd 9 [[Patrice Aouissi]], Space Arena, Hyeres, France - WBC. Referee: Bob Logist. Making the first defence of the title awarded to him after Anaclet Wamba forfeited his right to the championship, Dominguez (190) battered his way to victory over Aouissi (188) when the latter was retired at the end of the ninth round. Strong but lacking in skill, Dominguez hurt Aouissi several times, especially in the fourth, fifth and sixth, but was unable to drop his challenger who continued to rally and was ahead on points at the end of the ninth prior to being retired by his corner. It had been a game showing by Aouissi, but the ninth round had been a bad one for him and he had nothing left.
