1996-07-13 Ralf Rocchigiani w pts 12 Bashiru Ali, Gruga Hall, Essen, Germany - WBO. Referee: Rudy Battle. Scorecards: 115-113, 116-112, 116-112. Making a strong start, the champion took the opening four rounds before Ali (189¾) had some success in the fifth and gradually upped his game from the seventh onwards. Despite the fight becoming more even from that point, Rocchigiani (187½) was still in the driving seat and in the eighth he almost had Ali over with a heavy left to the jaw. With nothing to lose, Ali made one final effort to dislodge Rocchigiani in the 12th but was unable to turn things around in what would be his third and final attempt to become a champion.
