1996-07-14 Marco Antonio Barrera w rsc 7 Orlando Fernandez, Mammoth Gardens Arena, Denver, Colorado, USA - WBO. Referee: Vince Delgado. Boxing well within himself, Barrera (121½) took his time with the challenger before gradually opening him up with long jabs and crunching punches to head and body. Although the end always seemed in sight Fernandez (122) made Barrera work for it, but in the sixth after he had touched down for the first knockdown of his career he was really put to the sword. As blow after blow rained in on the brave Fernandez in the seventh the referee appeared unable to make up his mind whether he should stop it, but with no punches coming back it left him with no alternative other than rescuing the challenger, which he did at 1.03 of the session.
