1996-08-10 Dariusz Michalczewski w disq 7 Graciano Rocchigiani, St Paul Stadium, Hamburg, Germany - WBO. Referee: Joe O’Neill. Making an excellent start, the southpaw challenger stunned Michalczewski (174) badly in the opening round with cracking left to the jaw and although the latter came back to shade the third and fourth sessions he was always under pressure. Despite Rocchigiani (173½) being cut over the left eye in the third and on the right in the fifth he continued to push on and looked to be ahead before dropping Michalczewski with a solid left to the head in the seventh. After counting to ‘eight’ the referee stopped to allow the doctor to attend the champion and the contest was stopped on the 2.35 mark. Initially the officials ruled it to be a technical draw, but it was eventually classified as a disqualification win for Michalczewski when it was agreed that Rocchigiani landed the finisher on the break.
