1996-08-21 Laurent Boudouani w rsc 5 Julio Cesar Vasquez, Sports Palace, Le Cannet, France - WBA. Referee: Franco Priami. Making the better start, the champion charged into Boudouani (153), throwing overarm lefts from his southpaw stance, as he tried to force the latter on to the back foot. Having done his homework, Boudouani knew that the best time to get his punches off was when Vasquez (153½) attacked and the Frenchman started to make good use of that knowledge when crashing in solid uppercuts in the second round. Sticking to countering the onrushing Vasquez, Boudouani had more successes in the third and fourth but they were nothing compared to the damage he inflicted in the fifth. Beating Vasquez to the punch and dropping him for ‘eight’, Boudouani knew his chance had arrived and when the Argentinian was allowed to fight on, a left hook-short right to the jaw smashed him down again. This time, the referee immediately waved it off, the finish being timed at 2.07.
