Floored twice in the second session, Shiohama (104¼) weathered the storm to come back well with brief rallies to keep himself in the fight until the fifth. However, Alvarez (105) got back in charge to take the sixth and seventh rounds, prior to demolishing the challenger at 1.26 of the eighth, when the contest came to an end due to the three-knockdowns in a round ruling being enforced.
