1996-10-04 [[Roy Jones Jr]] w rsc 2 [[Bryant Brannon]], MSG Theatre, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA - IBF. Referee: Ron Lipton. Up against a brilliant champion, the unbeaten Brannon (168) at least had a go, tearing in to get his punches off before being dropped by a left hook. Although he was on his feet at ‘five’, the referee completed the mandatory count before allowing Brannon back into the fight and despite taking some heavy shots from Jones (168) he made it to the bell. Putting on a brave show, Brannon was soon down again, this time for ‘two’ after taking hooks and uppercuts to the jaw, but back in action he was quickly on the sharp end again and after two rights and a left hook sent him down face first the fight was stopped at 2.23 of the second. Jones relinquished the IBF version of the title in March 1997 on being recognised as the WBC light-heavyweight champion.
