1996-10-11 Johnny Tapia w rsc 7 Sammy Stewart, Texas Station Gaming Hall, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBO. Referee: Jay Nady. Proving to be an awkward customer, Stewart (113½) made things tough for Tapia (115) in the early stages as he continually leapt at the champion with wild punches. However, by the fifth Tapia began to back Stewart up with combinations and in the seventh shook him badly as he lunged in. By now the Liberian was looking distinctly at risk and after Tapia had punched him around the ring with a nine-punch combination followed by three heavy rights, the referee had seen enough and called it off on the 1.44 mark.
