1996-11-09 Evander Holyfield w rsc 11 Mike Tyson, MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBA. Referee: Mitch Halpern. Relatively even at the end of the fifth round with Holyfield (215) beginning to pick up the pace, the fight changed dramatically in the sixth when the champion, cut over the left eye, was smashed to the floor by a crashing left hook immediately after an inspection. Although recovering, Tyson (222), now resorting to holding, was doing less and less as Holyfield seemed to make every punch count. In the tenth, following a tremendous right to the jaw, Holyfield rammed in over 20 unanswered blows and although Tyson somehow managed to stay on his feet to get to the end of the session, the next would be his last. Tearing into Holyfield at the start of the 11th, Tyson was soon being set up with jabs and hooks and when he was smashed up against the ropes by another big right the referee rescued him after just 37 seconds of the round had elapsed.
