1996-11-09 Ronald Wright w pts 12 Ensley Bingham, Nynex Arena, Manchester, England - WBO. Referee: Genaro Rodriguez. Scorecards: 119-109, 119-110, 120-109. Giving a boxing masterclass in his first defence, Wright (152¾) exposed his challenger’s limitations when outscoring him in virtually every round. He also proved to be the fastest man in the weight class, never being in one place longer than he had to be. Disappointingly, Bingham (154) failed to make himself a single opening to get his heavy punches off, something that was not helped by the fact that he injured his left hand in the third, while Wright was nearly always sending out accurate southpaw jabs to keep him at distance. Towards the end, Wright occasionally rattled in hurtful combinations, as if to show Bingham that he could step up a gear if needed.
