1996-11-09 Steve Collins w rtd 6 Nigel Benn, Nynex Arena, Manchester, England - WBO. Referee: Paul Thomas. Having been forced out of their previous match with an injured ankle, Benn 167) was looking to turn things around this time and although he went well for the opening three rounds the champion picked it up in the fourth, especially with long rights to the head. After being penalised a point in the fifth for rubbing his head in Benn’s face, Collins (168) really went to town, walking through his opponent’s punches and landing heavily himself. Even then it was a surprise when Benn was retired by his corner at the end of the sixth, but his best punches had bounced off Collins to no effect and he had nothing left. Following the fight Benn announced his retirement from the ring.
