1996-11-22 [[Junior Jones]] w disq 5 [[Marco Antonio Barrera]], Ice Palace, Tampa, Florida, USA - WBO. Referee: Max Parker Jr. In setting up a huge shock, Jones (122) unleashed his outstanding left jab right from the opening bell and followed it up with straight rights to force the champion into retreat. Despite Barrera (122) coming back well in the next two sessions, Jones picked it up in the fourth until being halted by a low punch, for which he got time out. Both men exploded heavy shots in the fifth, but when Barrera was cut over the left eye it looked ominous and a big right put him down. On regaining his feet Barrera was subjected to a battery of lefts and rights before slumping down just as the bell rang to end the round. It was all over bar the shouting, and when his cornermen came to his assistance Jones was awarded the fight on a disqualification.
