1996-12-13 Dariusz Michalczewski w rtd 8 Christophe Girard, Stadium Sports Hall, Hannover, Germany - WBO. Referee: Joe Cortez. A return match between the pair saw the champion produce his best form this time round, and it was only in the third that Girard (174½) shaded a round before being systematically taken apart. Girard (174½) had come into the fight as a late replacement for Eddy Smulders and it showed. Dropped in the fifth by a right to the body and saved by the bell, Girard was seriously up against it and after he had been floored by a right to the head in the eighth his corner threw the towel in when the count had reached ‘six’. The finish was timed at 1.35 of the session.
