1996-12-21 Phillip Holiday w pts 12 Ivan Robinson, Mohegan Sun Events Centre, Uncasville, Connecticut, USA - IBF. Referee: Steve Smoger. Scorecards: 118-110, 117-111, 116-112. Although the scores showed a clear win for the champion, they did not reflect how close some of the rounds were and it was not until the eighth that he dominated Robinson (134¾), who had shaded some of the earlier sessions with good jabs and clever footwork. Having boxed from the fifth with a cut right eye, ultimately it was the constant bodywork that won it for Holiday (135) as he gradually took the steam out of Robinson’s punches and slowed him down. The previously unbeaten American put up a great show, but was effectively tamed by a man who threw over 1,000 punches during the contest and who seemed to get stronger as it wore on.
