1997-01-11 Daniel Zaragoza w pts 12 Wayne McCullough, Hynes Auditorium, Boston, Massachusetts, USA - WBC. Referee: Tony Perez. Scorecards: 116-112, 116-112, 114-115. It was felt by the partisans that all the unbeaten McCullough (120) had to do was to turn up in order to become the new champion. How wrong they were. McCullough soon discovered to his cost that the 39-year-old Zaragoza (121½) had plenty left in the tank, being able to nullify many of his southpaw attacks with shifts and feints that were backed up by accurate lefts and rights. With both men carrying cuts around their eyes it was only when Zaragoza tired in the last three rounds that McCullough came through, but it was not enough.
