Starting quickly, Alvarez (105) floored Porpaoin (105) with a right-left in round two and from then on, in the main, he outfought and outskilled the challenger, especially on the inside. Downed again in the seventh, Porpaoin somehow put Alvarez on the canvas in the ninth, but was soon made to pay for his indiscretion. With both eyes closing fast and taking a pounding, the referee stepped in to rescue the Thai at 2.14 of the 11th.
