1997-01-18 Mauricio Pastrana w pts 12 Michael Carbajal, Thomas and Mack Centre, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - IBF. Referee: Richard Steele. Scorecards: 112-116, 115-113, 115-114. In an interesting contest, Pastrana (106½) quickly got down to work and almost dropped the champion in the third round. The contest then seesawed back and forth without Carbajal (108) getting a real grip on the proceedings and allowing himself to be outworked. Afterwards he explained his lacklustre performance on continually trying to take the Colombian out with one punch. Pastrana forfeited the IBF version of the title for failing to attend the weigh-in for a defence against Manuel Herrera in May.
