1997-02-07 Lennox Lewis w rsc 5 Oliver McCall, Hilton Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBC. Referee: Mills Lane. Fighting for the title taken away from Mike Tyson, Lewis (251) was out to avenge the defeat McCall (237) inflicted on him back in September 1994 and he was soon placing the left jab into the latter’s face without any real response. After the third round McCall began walking round the ring and when the action started again he either clinched or walked away from Lewis. By the fourth he was openly crying. Even then he came out for the fifth and after Lewis had driven him into a corner the referee had seen enough and stopped the fight 55 seconds into the session. The general consensus was that McCall had suffered some kind of breakdown, but his trainer, Emanuel Steward, explained afterwards that McCall was completely rattled when he was unable to get inside due to Lewis’ great strength and wanted to defuse his emotion.
