1997-02-07 Lennox Lewis w rsc 5 Oliver McCall, Hilton Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBC. Referee: Mills Lane. Fighting for the title taken away from Mike Tyson, Lewis (251), out to avenge the defeat McCall (237) inflicted on him back in September 1994, was soon placing the left jab into the latter’s face without any real response. After the third round McCall began walking round the ring, either clinching or walking away from Lewis. By the fourth he was openly crying, and after Lewis had driven him into a corner in the fifth the referee stopped the fight 55 seconds into the session.

The general consensus was that McCall had suffered some kind of breakdown, but his trainer, Emanuel Steward, explained afterwards that he was completely rattled when unable to get inside due to Lewis’ great strength and wanted to defuse his emotion.
