1997-02-22 Artur Grigorian w rtd 11 Raul Balbi, Wandsbek Sports Hall, Hamburg, Germany - WBO. Referee: Andre van Grootenbruel. Making a bright start, Grigorian (134) was soon capitalising on his greater reach to score points with the southpaw jab. Although the challenger was game he had no real answer as Grigorian moved in with right-left-right combinations before getting out of range. Round after round this remained the pattern of the contest, Balbi (134½) attacking hard but unable to turn things around. There was never a time when Grigorian, showing good body movement and quick on his feet, looked at risk and, at 1.10 of the 11th, Balbi’s corner threw the towel in to save their man from taking further punishment. It was a wise decision as Balbi had nothing much left.
