1997-03-29 Michael Moorer w pts 12 Vaughn Bean, Hilton Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - IBF. Referee: Mitch Halpern. Scorecards: 116-113, 115-113, 114-114. Coming to the ring in a seemingly poor condition, the southpaw champion should have beaten Bean (212) out of sight but he only did what was needed to win against a man who spoiled his way through the fight. For much of the time Moorer (212) merely followed Bean around without doing too much and although he opened up to some degree in the eighth it was back to plodding around the ring for the remainder of the contest. Afterwards, on an inspection of the scorecards, Bean said that he should have worked that little harder, while Teddy Atlas, Moorer’s trainer, said that it would be the last time he worked with the champion.
