Starting well with good movement and using the left as a scoring weapon, in the fourth Choi (130) introduced the challenger to his body attacks and took the majority of rounds up until the tenth when Matsumoto (130) got a second wind. Well behind on the cards, the southpaw Matsumoto was given a brief time out in the tenth after being thumbed. Given the go ahead, Matsumoto attacked Choi for all he was worth and gave the champion plenty to think about before the latter came back strongly in the 12th.
