1997-06-21 Uriah Grant w pts 12 Adolpho Washington, South Florida University Sun Dome, Tampa, Florida, USA - IBF. Referee: Brian Garry. Scorecards: 116-112, 116-112, 114-114. In what was a major surprise the supposed trial-horse, Grant (187¼), won the IBF title at his third attempt when outscoring the champion by eight rounds to four on two of the judges’ scorecards. Working hard, Grant had more than held his own with Washington (190) during the first six rounds and in the seventh he almost had the latter over when connecting with two big rights to the head. From thereon he held the upper hand as Washington seemed unable to find an answer and well deserved his victory.
