1997-06-28 Lonnie Bradley w rsc 8 John Williams, MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBO. Referee: Richard Steele. Despite taking 18 wins from 22 fights into the ring, Williams (159½) had never fought in this kind of company before and it showed as the champion went to work on him from the opening bell. Boxing well within himself, throwing solid jabs and classy combinations, Bradley (160) was hurting Williams almost every time he connected and in the fourth the latter’s left eye was badly marked. The next three rounds saw Williams fall further and further behind and in the eighth Bradley went for the finish, landing several unanswered blows before a left hook dropped the man from Bradenton just as the referee had decided the stop the fight. The time of the stoppage was announced as being 45 seconds.
Grant was eventually recognised as the WBO champion on Bradley being forced to retire at the beginning of May 1998.
