1997-06-28 Lonnie Bradley w rsc 8 John Williams, MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBO. Referee: Richard Steele. Despite taking 18 wins from 22 fights into the ring Williams (159½) had never fought in this kind of company before, something that showed as the champion went to work on him from the opening bell. Boxing well within himself, throwing solid jabs and classy combinations, Bradley (160) was hurting Williams almost every time he connected, the latter’s left eye being badly marked in the fourth. The next three rounds saw Williams fall further and further behind, and in the eighth Bradley went for the finish. After landing several unanswered blows, a left hook dropped the man from Bradenton just as the referee had decided the stop the fight. The time of the stoppage was announced as being 45 seconds.
Grant was eventually recognised as the WBO champion when Bradley was forced to retire at the beginning of May 1998.
