1997-07-05 [[Raul Marquez]] w rsc 4 [[Romallis Ellis]], Isle of Capri Casino, Lake Charles, Louisiana, USA - IBF. Referee: Elmo Adolph. Making his first defence against a fellow southpaw and an Olympian from the class of 1988, Marquez (153) took his time to settle while Ellis (153) moved in with fast, scoring punches. Thirty seven seconds into the second, however, Ellis was put down for a count of ‘three’ after taking a straight left flush on the jaw and although he got through the remainder of the session he was looking badly shaken. By the fourth Marquez had the bit between the teeth and after Ellis had been dropped again (incorrectly ruled a slip by the referee) and was being battered in a corner the referee made his move, calling time at 1.14 of the session.
