1997-07-19 Carlos Salazar w pts 12 Salvatore Fanni, The Amphitheatre, Porto Rotonde, Sardinia, Italy - WBO. Referee: Jose Rivera. Scorecards: 114-113, 115-111, 116-112. Boxing defensively, Salazar (111¾) was a close winner over the Italian challenger, who was deducted a point in the fourth round for landing a series of low blows. Afterwards, the Italian camp complained that the southpaw champion had been allowed to get away with obstructions and fouls against an attack-minded Fanni (110¾). It was not one of Salazar’s better nights, but he seemed to do enough against an awkward opponent.
