1997-09-11 Robin Reid w pts 12 Hassine Cherifi, Kingsway Leisure Centre, Widnes, England - WBC. Referee: Tony Perez. Scorecards: 117-111, 116-113, 113-115. After having problems making the weight the champion was not at the top of his game, but just about held on for the split decision in his favour against the tough Cherifi (165¼), who made life extremely difficult for him. For several rounds it was a battle of jabs and even when Reid (166) stepped it up to bang in rights over the top and left hooks to the body, the tough Frenchman stood his ground and came back firing. The last three rounds were extremely hard for the fast-tiring Reid, now fighting open mouthed, and the 11th was Cherifi’s best round to date as he came through with lefts and rights despite being badly cut on the bridge of his nose. Reid came back well in the 12th and although Cherifi thought that he had done enough it was not to be.
