1997-09-27 Antonio Cermeno w pts 12 Jose Rojas, Jose Beracasa Gym, Caracas, Venezuela - WBA. Referee: Isidro Rodriguez. Scorecards: 117-114, 117-113, 119-113. Using his longer reach to confuse the southpaw challenger, Cermeno (122) piled up points steadily with speedy lefts and rights hitting the target areas while making himself difficult to be pinned down with excellent movement. The game Rojas (122) never gave up hope, stalking Cermeno throughout, but unable to sustain any serious attacks he ultimately went down on all three cards.

Cermeno relinquished the WBA version of the title in November in order to move up a weight class, an action that saw Enrique Sanchez and Rafael Del Valle matched to find a new champion.
