1997-10-04 [[Carl Thompson]] w pts 12 [[Ralf Rocchigiani]], Stadium Sports Hall, Hannover, Germany - WBO. Referee: Max Parker. Scorecards: 117-111, 119-109, 113-115. Having failed against Rocchigiani (185¾) in an earlier title challenge after dislocating his right shoulder when leading on points, Thompson (188½) made no mistake this time round despite one of the judges unbelievably marking him down as a loser. Working well with left jabs and solid rights, Thompson pressured Rocchigiani throughout and although the champion came on strong in the seventh when the pace dropped he was unable maintain that effort. Rocchigiani, his left eye swollen and bleeding, made another big effort in the final session, but it was just too little and too late.
