1997-10-17 [[Ike Quartey]] drew 12 [[Jose Luis Lopez]], Foxwoods Resort Casino, Ledyard, Connecticut, USA - WBA. Referee: Steve Smoger. Scorecards: 116-112, 113-113, 114-114. Opening up with a ramrod left lead, the champion concentrated on that punch all night as Lopez (146½) seemed unable to handle it despite being the taller than his rival, and according to punchstats was hit at the rate of six punches to one. Twice Lopez dropped Quartey (146), in the second round with a stiff right counter and in the 11th with a left-right. Quartey was up quickly on both occasions while Lopez, in trying to finish, was wild and wasted much energy when missing the target. Initially the decision was announced as a win for Quartey, but after the WBA supervisor checked the cards there were found to be discrepancies and the result was changed to that of a majority draw.
