1997-11-08 [[Imamu Mayfield]] w pts 12 [[Uriah Grant]], Thomas & Mack Centre, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - IBF. Referee: Jay Nady. Scorecards: 115-112, 117-110, 116-111. Making his first defence, the 35-year-old Grant (190) lost his title to the virtually unknown Mayfield (188), who proved to have a punch in either hand when shaking the champion up in the third before dropping him in the fifth with left hook. At that point of the fight it looked as though Mayfield would force a stoppage, but Grant came back strongly in the sixth to cut him over the left eye and then took the seventh when exerting plenty of pressure. From thereon though, Grant was unable to sustain his work rate and it was Mayfield who came through to land the title after just 18 fights.
