1997-12-05 Keith Holmes w rsc 11 Paul Vaden, The Amphitheatre, Pompano Beach, Florida, USA - WBC. Referee: Brian Garry. The champion quickly gained control, landing solidly with southpaw right jabs, and in the fourth round he had the lanky Vaden over twice. Although Vaden (158) came back well in the next two sessions, once he was badly cut over the left eye in the seventh it would be just a matter of time. And when Holmes (157¼) opened up in the 11th it was all over. Beating Vaden to the punch Holmes crashed in five heavy blows from both hands, the final one sending his challenger to the boards. At that point the referee called a halt without bothering to pick up the count. The finish was timed at 1.11.
